Orlando "Orrie" Wayne Nazarenus
March 23, 1929 - September 3, 2012
Orlando (Orrie) Wayne Nazarenus, 83, of International Falls, MN, died on Monday, September 3rd, 2012.
Orlando was born on March 23rd, 1929 to Alfred and Rose (Marqart) Nazarenus in Sleepy Eye, MN. He quit school in the 10th grade and learned the printing business from his father. On October 10th, 1949, he married Marilyn Renee Brethorst at the Methodist Church at Winthrop, MN. Orlando and Marilyn divorced after 30 years, but remained good friends.
He came to Intíl Falls in 1953 without knowing anyone. He worked for 40 years at the Daily Journal, starting out as a linotype operator. If you wanted to know how to spell something, you asked him.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially in his younger years. Many friends would bring their venison to him to process and smoke. He would also smoke turkeys to give away at Christmas. He always had a beautiful garden and was the first in town to have a ripe tomato.
Orlando was also a very good cook, although sometimes you never knew what you would find in his big kettle - turtle soup, blood sausage, head cheese, etc. Sometimes he would have you taste something before he would tell you what it was. He was also busy canning, sewing, and baking the best pies. In his earlier years, he did woodworking, which he was very skilled at.
He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Marilyn, and his son, Charles.
He is survived by his daughters, Audrey (Melvin) Robinson of Cokato, MN, Becky Nazarenus of Deer River, MN, and Brenda Wood of Intíl Falls; three grandchildren, Crist (Bobbie Jo) Robinson of Cokato, MN, Nicole Soboleski and Aaron Bloom of Intíl Falls; two brothers, Daryl Nazarenus of Luverne, MN and Donald (Dorothy) Nazarenus of Sleepy Eye, MN; one sister, Gretchen Brethorst of Hopkins, MN; several nieces and nephews with one niece of Intíl Falls, Sheila (Theodore) Thydean; and special friends, Bernice Dohman and Will and Tina Wehrenberg.
Per Orlandoís wishes, no services will be held.
